Dear Anne

Welcome to CycleClips, CTC's weekly e-newsletter. In this edition: take action to keep posties cycling; new calls for a solution to the HGVs hazard; and the Towards Carfree Cities conference. Plus: 12% off ZipVit products; free CTC memberships for Trek customers and End to End - on a Chopper!

Keep Posties Cycling

CTC has intensified its campaigning to save postal workers' bikes following last week's announcement that the new chief executive of Royal Mail will be former Canada Post head Moya Greene. Please take five minutes to write to Ms Greene, asking her to reverse her predecessor's decision to scrap cycle delivery. CTC will deliver all of your letters to Ms Greene after she starts work in July. We already have several hundred of them. Let's make it several thousand so that we can demonstrate why Royal Mail needs to invest in cargo bikes and trikes rather than stopping cycling altogether and just using vans.

If you're a cycling postal worker and you want to help, please email campaigns@ctc.org.uk to find out more.

HGV
New calls for solution to HGVs hazard

The family of Eilidh Cairns, a cyclist killed by a lorry last year, has called for a full investigation of all possible solutions to the hazards cyclists face from HGVs. Eilidh's sister Kate said it was insufficient to focus purely on cycle training, pointing out that many cyclists killed by lorries, including Eilidh herself, are experienced cyclists. Along with Living Streets, LCC and RoadPeace, CTC is part of the 'Lorries Working Group', which campaigns to make policymakers prioritise the safety of cyclists and pedestrians on all roads that are used by lorries.

Towards Carfree Cities
Life without cars

Could you manage without a car? 'Towards Carfree Cities' is an international conference taking place from 28 June-1 July in York. The focus of this year's event is bringing carfree communities to life, looking at ways to implement the theory of carfree cities, to promote carfree development and to gain support for the conversion of car-oriented cities. To learn more, visit the Towards Carfree Cities IX website, or email york@worldcarfree.net. If you'd like to go, book online as CTC members get a 20% discount.
